Iberostar vs secrets cozumel7/23/2023 The best options are in the Preferred section of the hotel, between the beach and the Preferred swimming pool. Obviously, the best deals are found at the edge of the property, farthest from the pools and beach, and these suites have minor wear and tear. Price varies depending on where the suite is located on the property and how recently it was renovated. See MoreĮach of the 238 rooms at Secrets is a spacious suite. There's a definite party vibe in the air, as expected when unlimited booze and the Mexican sun come together, but there are enough swimming pools and beach space to escape for quiet if that's what you're looking for. Sometimes there are several weddings happening at one time on the beach. Groups of friends stay here too and many people come back every single year. Kids aren't allowed here (they are next door at Sunscape Sabor Cozumel, the sister property) and the bulk of guests are couples. Towards the end of the day, the place can look a bit disheveled with abandoned towels and discarded cups, but staff puts everything in order before morning. Paved walkways meander through the large grounds which include palm trees, trimmed hedges, and tropical flowers. Just off of the lobby is the smallest pool in the property, the Relax Pool, which overlooks the white sand beach. Water and coffee are set out for guests' convenience. Overhead, light fixtures look like upside down candles. The lobby is set with a nature-inspired water fountain and there are several beige couches for seating. Guests are greeted in the white semi-open-air lobby with a cold towel and glass of Champagne before a staff member orients them to the hotel (and maybe offers a time-share pitch). ![]() It was also a lot cheaper for our nicer room here than the one we had at Iberostar.Secrets Aura Cozumel was originally built as a Wyndham property and it seems that no expenses were spared in renovations and upkeep. I would definitely recommend looking in to one of the Excellence resorts (Finest is the newest one) over the Iberostar. The place is pretty new so the grounds are immaculate and we are really liking our stay here so far other than some service problems. We have a swim up room and are loving being able to jump in the pool from our patio whenever we want. So far the food has been pretty good (the service has been spotty though) and you don’t need reservations unless you want to do a cooking show (like Benihana style). There’s about a dozen restaurants and a few are adults only. It was really annoying how much they pushed us to try to do it.įinest has half adults only and half family friendly. We refused it but heard others get suckered in and wasted 3+ hours of their day on it. If you do end up going here, make sure to say no and refuse to go to the timeshare presentation they do on your first full day here. We had no trouble getting a cabana by the pool, and chairs were plentiful. Not sure if you’re looking for that or not. The room was nice but they don’t have any with their own pools. If variety is important to you, you probably won’t be too happy with more than a few days here. We didn’t think the food was super impressive but overall it was pretty good. There’s also only the buffet for breakfast, and buffet or a pool grill for lunch. Some people said they couldn’t get reservations some nights (luckily we didn’t have that problem) so if that happens, your only option is the buffet. There’s only 5 different restaurants and they require a reservation (and are only open at dinner). ![]() The place is pretty well maintained but shows its age. The Iberostar was ok but not great in my opinion. Spent 4 nights at Iberostar Grand Bavaro and now on night 4 of 5 at Finest Punta Cana.
